Recovering from the "Great Flood"

By now many will know that Golden Ears United Church was flooded as a result of that massive storm on September 14th, 2018. We are in disaster recovery mode and have a restoration company working with us to mitigate the damage. They are currently focusing on drying out the main floor spaces that were flooded: the hall, kitchen, lounge, corridor, Lesley's office, narthex and part of the sanctuary. They have ripped the wet carpeting out of the hall and are removing the glue, so hopefully the hall will be usable soon. Thanks for understanding that some previously scheduled events may be cancelled. We currently don't have a timeline for the completion of the repairs, but the damage was extensive.

But we have so much to be thankful for! Most of the Sanctuary, offices and all of the daycare was spared.

We are deeply grateful for First Haney Scouts and leaders who jumped into action the night of the flood to quickly pump out the water from the basement, and to help us mop up the water upstairs.

We will keep you up to date with the progress of the reconstruction. Stay tuned for information on fundraisers to help us cover the $25,000 insurance deductible.
